Stonington ― The Economic Development Commission has asked selectmen to support the expansion of Shore Line East service to Mystic and Westerly.
Last week, commission member Stephen Bessette spoke to selectmen asking them to consider passing a resolution in support of the expansion, citing its significant economic and community benefits.
The request comes after the Westerly Town Council passed a similar resolution last year.
Shore Line East is a partnership between the Department of Transportation and Amtrak that provides regional commuter rail service that operates seven days a week between New Haven and New London, with some service originating or terminating in Stamford.
