STONINGTON — Some changes proposed to the large mixed development going up on Route 2 in Pawcatuck, including the addition of an 80,000 square-foot technology center, will go to a public hearing next week before the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

Developers READCO Stonington LLC and Stonington Village Partners LLC will be before the commission Nov. 3 to request changes to the Neighborhood Design District.

The application includes removal of a planned medical facility and pickle ball courts and the addition of the technology center. The affected parcels are located at 3 Voluntown Road, 85 Voluntown Road, 91 Voluntown Road, 455 Liberty St. and four additional unaddressed parcels.

The addition of the technology building already gained the approval of the town’s Architectural Design Review Board last month, along with positive comments from board members.

Plans call for an office and research and development space contained in a four-story structure. It would be built on part of the corner parcel where a vacant house now stands. A path would connect the facility to the next door residential site. Plans also call for a more than 300-spot parking area to accommodate the building.

The parcels are adjacent to Stonington Village, READCO’s 232-unit residential development currently under construction on the former Regal Cinemas site, which was demolished earlier this year.

When complete, the development will offer multifamily studio and 1-3 bedroom apartments, with 20% designated for middle-income renters. Work is taking place in three phases, totaling an estimated three-year time to completion …
