Business Food Waste

Casella, Stonington's contracted commercial hauler, is expanding its services to include food waste collection for local businesses. While there is a cost associated with this service, Casella will also review each business’s current waste disposal practices to identify opportunities for improvement. For example, a business currently using a 6-yard trash container that generates a significant amount of food waste may be able to divert that material and switch to a smaller 3- or 4-yard trash container. This adjustment could reduce overall disposal costs and help offset the expense of food waste collection.

Ideally, many businesses will see little to no increase in their total disposal fees while significantly reducing the amount of material sent to the incinerator.
