STONINGTON AREA BIKE2WORK CHALLENGE May 1-31
Dear Employer,
Bike Stonington is partnering with the Economic Development Commission, Adventure Mystic and Mystic Cycle Centre to hold the BIKE2WORK CHALLENGE for the month May 2022. In honor of National Bike Month, we are encouraging your employees to travel to work by bicycle rather than car or public transportation. Biking is a great way to improve fitness, reduce stress and reduce your carbon footprint. Employers find bike commuters to be more alert and energized for work tasks. Retail businesses show increased spending in shoppers by bike due to their lingering pace.
What do you need to support your cycling employees? First, do an inventory to see if your facility accommodates bikers. Do you have a secure, well lit bike rack or storage area? Mystic Cycle Centre is offering a discount on bike racks available for purchase through them. Then is there a place for riders to wash and change clothes and store their gear? Many options are available. Then encourage teams to be formed within your organization- even one person can make a team. Cycling is inclusive of all ages and types of riders-no one should be left out. Prizes from Bike Stonington to include restaurant and retail gift certificates. Within your own organization we encourage your own incentive programs!
Create your team and record their miles and attempts! Individuals can be a team. Signup on https://Challenghound.com/group/BikeStonington.Team data must be submitted by June 1st. Prizes will be awarded June 2, 2022. Data can be logged via Garmin, Map My Ride, Coros or Strava technologies. On Strava there is a Club to join Stonington BIKE2WORK Challenge. We encourage you to nominate someone in your organization who is likely to bike or has never biked and spotlight them biking to work. Friday, May 20th National Bike to Workday and we will be celebrating with Coffee Shop Pit Stops around Town and spotlighting locals commuting for the first time.
Safety is our top priority, be it planning the route or making your sure your bike and gear is in working order. As such, Mystic Cycle Centre will be offering a series of workshops:
--Weds. April 13, 6 PM, Roadside Bicycle Fixes, Ladies Night
--Weds. May 11, 6 PM. Achieving A Comfortable Bicycle Ride Workshop
--Weds May 18th Hands-On Bicycle Safety Workshop (Bring Your Own Bike)
