Minutes: Special Meeting of Cultural District Committee

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 

Stonington Human Services, 166 S. Broad St., Pawcatuck, CT 

Attending: EDC: Dave Hammond, Elsie Bisset. 

Attendees: Matt Beaudoin, Paul Geise, Laura Jackson, Pete Robinson, Gabriella Radujko and Wendy Bury, Executive Director of SE Cultural Coalition. 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Dave Hammond. 

Everyone present was invited to participate in the discussion. This Cultural District Advisory Committee will function as an ad hoc committee of the EDC until such time as the Selectman appoint members. 

Presentation by Wendy Bury on Cultural Districts in Connecticut. The presentation was tailored to the establishment of a Cultural District in Stonington. The PowerPoint will be sent via email to the attendees and will be available to the public as well, possibly on the website: www.Stonington1649. 

In the interest of time, agenda items #3-6 were combined in a general discussion. Next steps: Dave and Elsie will work with Wendy and Danielle to craft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jeff Callahan of the Borough. Paul and Laura will create a fact sheet which will be used as visits are made to create the cultural inventory. Gabriella will work with Matt and Pete to set a date for the walk-about to visit artists/creative businesses gathering information for the inventory. 

Agreed by consensus that Wednesdays are best for meetings. Planning for next meeting on Wednesday, June 15. Continue to define roles of Chair and task leaders. 

Public comment: The attendees participated throughout the meeting. There were no other comments from the public.
