2026 Plan of Conservation and Development
The Town of Stonington has begun the process of updating our Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) for 2026. Since the last update in 2015, Stonington has grown and changed. As part of the Town's commitment to proactive and sustainable growth, the POCD is updated once every ten years to ensure our vision and goals remain aligned with the evolving needs of the community.
The POCD is a long-range planning document that serves as a guide for future development and decision-making in Stonington. The plan guides important decisions related to funding capital improvements, development priorities, and the preservation and conservation of natural resources and open spaces. The POCD will focus on key topics like economic development, housing, transportation, historic and cultural resources, natural resources, open space, and quality of life goals.
Partnership with SLR Consulting
The POCD is a collaborative effort between the Town of Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC), Town staff, and the public. Stonington has partnered with SLR Consulting to lead the development of the 2026 POCD. The PZC has established a Steering Committee to oversee the plan's development. SLR will work closely with Town staff and the Steering Committee to ensure the plan reflects the community's vision and needs.
Public Engagement: Your Voice Matters
Public participation is a key part of the POCD process. We encourage all residents to get involved and share their thoughts and vision for the future of Stonington. There will be a variety of open houses, workshops, and information sessions where you can make your voice heard and help shape your community's future.
