Stonington Cultural Districts hit the air

A month-long media blitz brings Stonington’s cultural assets into focus.

Stonington's quest to establish a state-certified Cultural District began in 2021. The EDC and Selectman's Office, with guidance from the Southeastern Connecticut Cultural Coalition and the DECD, began a lengthy process of Community engagement and planning, formation of a steering commission, endless forms and checklists, and many walks, conversations and ideas.

Finally, in April 2024, word came from the DECD that Stonington was the seventh town in CT to be awarded Cultural District status, and the first to contain more than one. And so we celebrated on May 10.

As part of the State's CTVISIT marketing program, Broadcaster Fox61 was engaged to tape a series of interviews with the movers and shakers behind each town's Cultural District, and each town was given a month. Stonington drew August, and the final five interviews are below.
