What’s next for Solar in Stonington?

Stonington is a State leader in Residential Solar

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority's 2024 Clean and Renewable Energy Report ranked Stonington second among Connecticut towns for reported residential solar capacity per resident, with 10.23 megawatts through September 2024 — about 55.5 kW per 100 persons, behind only Middlefield and ahead of North Haven.

That’s impressive. And it means many of your neighbors have already gone on the Solar Journey and can share with you what they’ve learned. Come to the La Grua Center this Thursday to find out more.

The municipal part. At the same time, Stonington had no commitment to installing solar on municipal buildings, a strategy many of our citizens advised be included in the 2026 POCD this fall. And so it came to pass: In the final POCD document, explicit support for municipal solar was formalized through specific amendments to the implementation strategies.

That’s progress! It should come as no surprise that the motivation for both residents and municipal managers is saving money. The recent, unprecedented climb in fuel prices underscores the need to look at employing all sensible energy sources, in Stonington and around the world. But dealing with that locally requires some more resources.

We have those. Come to the La Grua Center on Thursday October 29th at 6:00 pm, and discover what you can do!
